Mayor Erin Stewart and the tour participants listen as New Britain Director of Business Development Bill Carroll speaks.
Participants were grateful to escape the sweltering 90-degree-plus temperatures and board the air-conditioned bus, which also offers additional standing room capacity.
The event was sponsored by the Connecticut Economic Development Association and organized by the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
Patrick McMahon, the association’s president said its purpose was to showcase development opportunities that have opened up as a result of the creation of CTfastrak.
“Ultimately, we’re interested in how transit impacts economic development,” he said.
The tour began at Newington’s Constitution Square behind the Rooster Company Restaurant, where it also concluded.
Lisa Rivers, CDOT transportation supervising planner, said an evening excursion was originally planned but demand for CTfastrak service is such that a spare bus wasn’t available during peak hours.
From Constitution Square, the tour began on one of CTfastrak’s local circulatory routes that are offshoots of its primary New Britain-to-Hartford corridor.
