In this edition of our “Introducing” blog series, we interviewed Ellen Andrews, executive director of the Connecticut Health Policy Project.
The Connecticut Health Policy Project provides balanced research and information for Connecticut policymakers. Their mission is to expand access to quality, affordable health care for every state resident.
What inspired you to start the Connecticut Health Policy Project?
“Answering constituent calls at the legislature and realizing how poorly the ‘system’ responds to the needs of CT residents, providers, taxpayers, and businesses.”
Why did you choose to become a member with reSET?
“I love the co-working model – you never know where the critical idea or solution to the problem you’ve been struggling with will come from.”
How do you see the Connecticut Health Policy Project positively impacting the community?
“By improving health; not just health care, but everyone’s health.”
What do you want your company to look like five years from now?
“A catalyst, an educational connector , expanding information and analytic capacity (common sense) on health care. I really hope we are out of business in ten years – that CT’s health care system is fixed.”
Why did you start your company in Connecticut? What do you hope to give to and to gain from the community here?
“There is a myth that CT has health care figured out. We are far behind our neighbors, but we have all of the elements we need to make it work.”
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received about being an entrepreneur?
“To consider the long haul, and that relationships are key. Never ever, ever burn bridges with anyone, even people you may initially think are opponents. You never know where opportunities will come from.”
