Greetings!
S.B. 23- An Act Concerning Benefit Corporations and Encouraging Social Enterprise has taken another step forward! Just moments ago we received official word that a public hearing on Benefit Corporation Legislation has been set for Thursday February 27, 2014. The Public Hearing will take place at 10:00am at the Legislative Office Building (LOB) in room 1D.
As per prior communication sent out by reSET earlier this month, the 2014 legislative session kicked off on Feb 5th and Connecticut’s benefit corporation bill, S.B. 23, was introduced as part of the Governor Dannel P. Malloy’s budget recommendations for the year.
Public hearings are a great way to ensure that your voice is heard. Given the significant impact this legislation will have on Connecticut’s social enterprise sector, it is important to inform legislators about the bill’s provisions, its implications for the state, and to discuss how it could better serve Connecticut’s social entrepreneurs.
There are several resources reSET has put together to help you prepare either written or in-person testimony, which is available here. If you are interested in lending your voice to bring Benefit Corporations to Connecticut, please review that information, and contact Public Policy and Impact Investment Specialist, James Woulfe directly at Jwoulfe@socialenterprisetrust.org
Stay tuned! We are excited to keep everyone updated on S.B. 23’s journey as it makes it way through the legislative process.
